Athletics at Great Hope Baptist School provide students with opportunities to compete, grow, and represent their school with excellence. Through team sports and individual competition, our student-athletes develop discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and good sportsmanship while striving to honor Christ both on and off the field.

PHILOSOPHY OF ATHLETICS

Great Hope Baptist School believes that participation in an interscholastic sports program gives a student the opportunity to exercise his body (I Timothy 4:8) and to demonstrate the spiritual principles he has received in the classroom.

The goals of the athletic program attempt to teach Biblical principles of living and to build Christian character in the lives of our athletes while promoting excellence in our athletic program.

These goals are met in a variety of ways: rules, clinics, and training sessions for coaches or athletes; the example of dedicated Christian coaches who are able to take advantage of opportunities to reinforce Christian character training in a practical manner; the use of certified officials for all contests; the purchase of quality uniforms and equipment; instruction and testing aimed at conditioning and prevention of injuries and treatment by qualified personnel when injuries do occur; and the high academic standards which must be maintained for participation in Great Hope's athletic program.

From the "Winner's Creed" to our well-chosen mascot, the Soldier, every facet of our program is dedicated to instilling within our students the kind of strong Christian character which will enable them to stand for what's right throughout their lives.

At Great Hope Baptist School our students are taught that "true winning" is more than just winning on the scoreboard; it is always giving one's best to the glory of God (I Corinthians 10:31). In fact, students are taught that it is a disgrace to do less than your best. Although winning according to the scoreboard is not always possible, the players must play with a winning desire. Great Hope Baptist School believes Christians ought to be the true winners in all areas. This would include areas such as spiritually, socially, and academically. With this philosophy in mind, a "Winner's Creed" has been adopted by the Athletic Department and is used in all sports.

"I believe that a true winner always gives his best,
never to the glory of self, but always to the glory of God.
With the Lord's help, I will strive to be a true winner today."
